Frog Holler
http://www.frogholler.com
This Berks County, PA band is one of the best keep secrets in music today. Their special breed of PA Dutch Americana makes them one of RFG favorites. Don’t miss them live!

Centro-Matic
http://www.centro-matic.com/
These Denton, TX based musicians has brought us several albums released as Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel and Will Johnson. I still can’t figure out why they aren’t hugely popular. “The Carlton Chronicles: Not Until The Operation’s Through” by South San Gabriel was written from the standpoint of a cat, and involves themes of struggle, triumph, isolation, cohabitation and such. Simply brilliant.

The Baptist Generals
http://www.baptistgenerals.com/
A few of the folks on the RFG street team first saw the Baptist Generals open for Centro-Matic at the Khyber Pass in Philadelphia, PA. Many of their songs are featured in the RFG play list, but “Going Back Song” off No Silver/No Gold stands out as one of the best songs of the last few years.

Record Labels

Misra Records
http://www.misrarecords.com/
Austin, TX based record label that handle such RFG favorites as Great Lake Swimmers and South San Gabriel.

Merge Records
http://www.mergerecords.com/
This North Carolina bases label is home many great bands such as The Arcade Fire, Richard Buckner, Trial of Dead, The Magnetic Field, Neutral Milk Hotel, Teenage Fanclub and M Ward. Additional props should go out to these folks for re-issuing the first 3 Dinosaur Jr albums.

Matador Records

Sub Pop
http://www.subpop.com/
This isn’t the flannel shirt loving Sub Pop of our youth. Sure, Mudhoney and Tad can still be found on this label, but the folks from Seattle have one of the most diverse and interesting rosters around. The Shins, Wolf Parade, Iron & Wine, All Night Radio and The Baptist Generals are a few of the great bands Sub Pop works with. Plus, any label that has David Cross on the roster is OK in the minds of the RFG staff.

Retail Outlets

Waterloo Records
http://www.waterloorecords.com
Great CD located in Austin, TX. They specialize in Indie Rock and Texas Music plus great in store performances. If you happen to stop by their store, take some time to have a beer and a burger at the Waterloo Icehouse next store.

Tony Luke’s
http://www.tonylukes.com/
The best cheese steak and roast pork sandwich in Philadelphia. If you find yourself in Philly, avoid the tourist traps at Pat’s and Geno’s and head to the shop on Oregon Avenue.
